Northrop Auditorium
The University of Minnesota’s Northrop Auditorium approached our identity and branding class at the College of Design for help with a re-branding of Northrop Auditorium (as a building, as well as a series of events). What they needed was an identity that was easily extendable to other events such as a jazz series, lunchtime concerts, ballet, as well as other arts related things.
A bit about the concept. Northrop Auditorium was originally created in the 40’s. It was a place to hold the University’s assemblies and was designed to house the entire student population at the time. Using this idea of an all-encompassing space, I sought to create two arrows that would enclose the identity.
These arrow shapes also serve as a basis for an expression bubble. Boil everything about Northrop’s activities, and it all defaults to nothing but pure expression.
